If the water was muddy or stained I almost bet it was perch, they move shallower in stained water

nope, most of these dots should be either bass or crappie. perch more looks like a line, not dots in chirp sonar.

I'm confused now. I thought Chirp was used with 2D not Down Image.

That's correct, chirp is technology used with 2D sonar not downscan, I think hangout is confusing his sonar termonology.

As you can see from my other pictures, the DI is set on 800 kHz. I'm not a big fan of Mega on my SI or DI. Take a look at these two SI screenshots taken the same day. You can see I am at 455 on my SI. I just get a lot better image out away from the boat.

When you read that Mac Crappie is catching his fish two cranks off the bottom, you will see why in these shots. You can see a
shadow just out from these fish, meaning they are about two feet off the bottom. This is why Mr. Mac can put good fish in the boat.

For the 3 times I have used my new Helixs I've learned (You Tube Lesson) that the mega setting will give a very narrow cone and is best for super Shallow 10 FOW and less.

Very cool to see. Looks quite similar to striped bass feeding on menhaden off the coast of Virginia in the Atlantic. Great shot.
