Default My first observation of Live Scope...what are your thoughts?

Live Scope...I saw it in action today. I watched a fisherman chasing suspended crappie over the 40' channel. Using Live Scope, he hopped across the lake fish-to-fish, selecting which specific one to drop a line in front of. He, as they say, was catching one "here and there." All but ones that I saw him catch we good size fish. He also used (I estimate) a 12' long rod...extremely stiff. I noticed it barely bent lifting large crappie out of the water. After watching this fisherman in action, adding to that other reports of success I have heard recently, I am ready to conclude that this will prove the biggest fishing breakthrough since a depthfinder. Bigger than fishfinders, GPS, Terrova. Why do I make this claim? Because in the past, if I know where to fish and can adjust the boat to follow a contour or hold a spot, I can win a tournament without seeing arcs, or coordinates, or spot lock/cruise control. However, someone who moves fish-to-fish, targeting the largest individual fish, never wasting time in the midst of small fish, will likely beat someone who does not. I imagine this could even replace spider rigging in the spring flats, as fisherman stand in the front of the boat and hop fish-to-fish. Am I wrong? I'd enjoy hearing what everyone thinks.

Mixed feelings about it. While in my mind I've always wanted to be able to "see through" the water and see the fish, it seems this kind of fishing removes some of the mystery behind fishing which keeps it fun for me. I think the reason I keep fishing is I never actually master the hobby. No matter how often I do it, there is more to learn. After every trip, especially bad trips where there are zero or few fish caught, I rerun the trip through my head and come up with adjustments I should have made, techniques or spots I should have tried. With this technology it seems to eliminate a lot of what keeps me coming back. If you can see the good fish, drop a bait on their head and they don't want to eat, might as well turn around and go back home to do something else.

Most of the hobbies I dabble in get dropped as soon as I've reached a certain level of expertise. It's the learning that keeps me interested I guess. Maybe Live Scope has that too? I'm sure I'll own one eventually, when they come down in price.

My thoughts are: To each his own. I personally have no interest in (what I have heard called) "video game fishing" or any other activity that requires starring at any screen more than leisurely relaxing and taking in the sights and sounds of nature while on the water and thoroughly enjoying the challenges and/or frustrations of fair chase the good ole fashioned way. That's just me and my two cents.

Well said. I've talked myself into skipping church on many Sundays because that's the only time I can go. I'll "commune with God" and "enjoy His creation" but when then I find myself fishing so intently that doesn't happen I have to force myself to take a break from actually fishing to enjoy being outdoors and taking in what's around me.

Well tournaments are still 7-8 hours long so us Non-Livescopers still can be right in the thick if it. The main key is to know where the big fish are going to be. That being said, as some have seen on Facebook, I've just ordered new hummingbirds. If I am able to afford Hummingbird Live when it comes out, then I'm adding it on.

Well, I took the plunge and bought one last year. I have mixed feelings about it. One thing for sure is that just cause you have one doesn't guarantee fish in the boat. Also, I am still learning to use it and am finding that I seem to spend more time staring at a screen and making adjustments than actually fishing.

You fellars must be single. Wife said to me, " do you realize how much fish you could buy with the money you waste on that boat"? I said, " Not in it for the meat, I'm in it for the sport". Now what would I say if I took the sport out of it?

Most expensive meat I eat is dove. I calculated the price-per-pound after running 200 rounds through the gun and paying the farmer for the right to hunt, it wasn't pretty

I bought a new Mako LTS about 5 years ago. They say the worst purchase you can ever make is a new boat. I get that. However, the times I've spent in a boat with my grandfather, Grandmother, father, mother, brother, sons, daughters, and wife are priceless. What better place to spend time with your loved ones? The boat with a bucket of minnows has a way of clearing the mind, warming the soul, building/mending relationships, and coming to realize the things that are really important. As Pappy said, it's not about the meat........... and when it comes down to it, it's not really about the boat either.
