    Default Kerr/Buggs island

I moved up in Granville county awhile back and I have been fishing more and more at Kerr. Mostly for stripers with some success. I haven’t been real successful with crappie yet. Guys I’ve talked to about it seem to do good single pole jigging over brush piles. Any of you guys fish Kerr with multiple poles?

I’m going up again this week and only bringing crappie gear. I’m thinking of longline fishing jigs and covering a bunch of water to find brush and then try to target individual piles that look fishy. I’m going to be in the creeks in the west side of the lake. 10-30’ of water.

    Have any tips or tricks?

We fished Bobcat's crappie tournament on Saturday and out of 21 teams, 8 weighed in no fish. We had a couple under a pound and decided it was not worth the effort to weigh them in. Below is a section of brushpiles that we fished for a couple of hours hoping a few big ones would be in the area, but only got one.

We could however, catch 6"-8" crappie two at a time over the brushpiles. After about 40 chippers, it wore me out. We then went tight-lining up one of the coves and after about 25 8"-10" bass, we gave up and went long-lining further out the cove. After about 30-40 white perch, we gave up. Glad 3:00 had come and the rain had quit. Did we catch a lot of fish? Yes, but other than one monster catfish, all little things. But, we are still learning the lake. Decided not to fish the FTC this year and focus on Kerr Lake.

Some of you will see what looks like large fish in the bottom-left of the screen, but that is where I was coming out of a turn with the boat. We saw a lot of brushpiles with small crappie, so I would say the future looks good.

Well that actually makes me feel better. Thanks for the report.
The future up there does look good. We got plenty of 4-6# striper up there this summer. The bass and crappie should do real good over the next year or so, with the amount of bait I’ve been seeing.

The bite here on Kerr/Bugs has been tough the last couple of weeks for good size fish. Lots of peanuts on most every brushpile. Hopefully the water will stabilize after all this rain and the better fish will start to show up more consistently. And your right, I don't think I've ever seen more bait than I'm seeing now. But I'm also seeing lots of small bass and crappier. Hopefully this class of fish will really grow up over the next few years. It could be special.
