Went to Harris yesterday afternoon and found big'ole crappie feeding heavily in coves with schools of small baitfish. They were busting shad and actually jumping out of the water. Thought they were bass so I tried some bass lures no luck. Switched to crappie fishing and bingo. They were tough to catch on lures, very picky, wish I had minnows. Match the hatch with your lures. Anyhow, thought I'd let y'all know probably a good time to go hit'em in the coves.
Also caught some gills on crappie jigs which is kinda unusual. They were up there feeding on the small baitfish too.
My brother and I have been working points and the openings of coves for bass and have noticed crappies busting the surface exactly as you saw.
The bass were mixed in there with 'em... but IMO it seemed like the majority of the fish breaking the surface were crappie and white perch.
