I had a livescope and was actually pretty good at using it but sold it to my BIL, but for reasons that might make some laugh or some may relate. I realized one day while fishing with my sons that I had been drifting away from what made fishing (any fishing) special for this old soul..and it was the mystery and ANTICIPATION of things while on the water or in the woods. Let me add that i'm also a weekend warrior with 3 sons (shadows lol) who are always with me when they're not in HS sports. Seeing fish on my sonar and seeing them on livescope were 2 totally different things for us..yeah my kids love their video games during the rare time they're not in the outdoors or chasing girls but after a few trips they said the fun of the hit was not knowing when it was coming..the tick, the thump..was like a jump scare to them. Then came the 9" -10" - 11" crappie that was always awesome every time it flopped on the deck became "not bad" or "kinda small". The old saying "to each their own" is as true now as ever, but for this old guy I realized their are some things, like my first lab, that can't ever be replaced no matter the price tag and my hope is that Livescope (as it becomes more widespread and affordable) doesn't rob future generations of fisherman from experiencing some of the special things about being on the water by staring at the screen all day like we were doing. (red tail hawks screaming, beavers swimming, ducks, deer on the shore, squirrels running thru the trees and so many others). God bless everyone.

Man that is awesome and I also agree with you on everything you just said, I have 2 sons and they absolutely love the waiting for that next bite because you never know what it could be , from what I see from livescope fishermen they never ever take their eyes off of the screen, so in my mind when do they ever time to talk to their fishing buddies and cut up or like me have some very good talks with my children while we are easing around waiting on that next bite man thank you for posting this.

Who you think is going to have to buy the scales and spend the time finding a place to weigh in and get permits and lose 1.5hrs of fishing time getting stuff setup to do the weigh in and who is going to buy the kids prizes and the other prizes that I would give away. That would be ME ,so for the first tournament the payout would be 80% if I have anymore tournaments then the payout would go to 100% , so I would say to you if you have a problem with that then go spend $160 to fish at other tournaments and throw away your money.

Maybe do just like we did in the old days, just go fishing and do a fish fry at the end.
Why does everything have to be a competition nowadays?

i have told you how to avoid permit fees, and i m sure if you contacted monks crappie or ed at southern crappie rods they would be more than happy to donate a few items for the youth, i also have a set of postal scales that i have used before in tournaments, they wiegh to the thousanth of an ounce that i would be happy to lend

but to tell me im throwing my money away when i enter a tournament reminds me alot of my exwife, i fish tournaments to learn and get better and help support the growth of crappie fishing, some days you do well some days you don't thats fishing, nobody i mean nobody is winning everyday, we all have bad days, you talk about those fellas winning back to back because of livescope, i can recall this past may a tournament on that same lake where that livescope sure didn't help them, you will have times when you have figured something out and you are flat on them, then you will have those days where you scratch your head, years back it was the one rod guys complaining about the multi pole fisherman, then it was the guys complaining they didn't have side imaging and now its livescope, i personally fish tournaments to learn and get better

my first tournament i ever fished was on fishing creek in sc with the now defunct southern crappie association, there were 52 boats and we finished 26th, it was an eye opening experience, but i used that to grow positively, no bitterly its really all about perspective and how you are gonna deal with circumstances, you can learn and get better or you can make excuses and become stagnate

i think the real niche that needs to be filled if you are truly looking to start a few tournaments for the right reasons would be an adult youth league, that would be fun, and it would help the sport to truly grow

but untill then excuse me , i need to get my stuff ready to ride down to greenwood this week to go throw my money away

Thanks for your input, everyone has an opinion, but for you to make the comment you did about using the money for live scope fund was not called for. I was simply trying to make a tournament for the average joes that don’t get to fish 3 days a week and show up knowing exactly where the fish are, I put in as much time as I can raising a family and working 9-10 hrs a day and I fish as hard as anybody, I have some great ideas for children and I might try to get some stuff donated , but that comment should have never been said, I know you don’t know me, but if you did you would know that I would never try to rip anyone off.

I see no problem with anyone running a tournament with the goal of making money. What's wrong with that? You know the rules when you sign up. If you don't like the payout, don't fish it.
