I have to replace a hydraulic hose on the motorhome leveler, it's the return line to bring the piston back up.
is it ok to just operate the piston up and down several times to purge?
I've bled brakes before never hydraulic
    TIA

I wouldn't think you would need to bleed the line. Just check/add fluid after you run it to check for leaks since you will lose fluid when you take the old hose off. Also hydraulic hoses are usually VERY tight so be careful when you break it lose

I have replaced all of the hydraulic hoses and 2 hydraulic cylinders on my side steer and there is no bleeding involved. Before you take the line off you will want to work the leaver back and forth with the motor off to relieve the pressure in the line so you don't shoot fluid everywhere. Then once replaced start it up and run it in and out until it pushes the air out of the system.
