    Default Hyco

If you do a search on this forum, Hyco hasn't been mentioned since 2017. I'm sure there are those who would like for it to stay that way. LOL But, I will let the cat out of the bag. There are some good crappie in that lake. Before you load up the boat and head out, let me give you the details. You have to pay to play. $25 for a day pass, or $75 for a season pass. Once the weather turns nice the lake will be over crowded with pleasure boaters, so the $75 bucks will only buy you about 3-4 months of peaceful fishing. However, with the local lakes and rivers being shut down from all the heavy rain, it was a good alternative yesterday. My buddy Billy and I fished from 8-1 and caught over 40 crappie. Most were over 10" and we had 5 or 6 that were in the 1.5 lb range. The marina on the lake sells minnows and they have a grill for breakfast/lunch. There is a 8" size limit and a 20 fish creel limit. The game warden and lake authority patrol it regularly. I'll try to post some pictures from my phone.

Thanks for the heads up on Hyco Boyce. I do remember from some of those past reports... that some people were catching some Tilapia there too.
I believe I'll pass on Hyco due to distance from me and also since it looks like there's so many houses around that lake.

Yes. If you think you might make more than 3 trips a year, buy the season pass.

I live 10 minutes from it but have never fished it. I just cant get over the outrageous fees. My buddies have told me it is over run with spoiled teenagers with daddys big money boats that make it hard to fish. I have had some good luck at lake mayo right up the road and they dont have a fee. Looks like Hyco has some nice fish from your report though.

Yeah if you go definitely get the season pass. You can fish from Nov-March without that many pleasure boaters on the water. I live in Mebane so it's 45 minutes to Jordan, Harris or Falls. Hyco is only 10 minutes further.
