    Default Black River 12/29/19

Finally found a couple hours to fish this morning. River was flooded pretty bad, water was out the banks. Managed a dozen keepers, around a dozen throw backs. Most of the keepers came off of one tree. Caught them jigging the little 1" Berkley Gulp minnows on 1/32 jigs. Color didn't seem to matter, used chartreuse and black shad. Trolling shiners was a waste of time, they're in the brush. Nothing too impressive, though I'm happy with the mild success considering how high the river is and how fast the water is moving right now. I'll take it over a day in the office.

Were you boat fishing; if so, is there a ncwr boat launch in the area and is the river/creeks suitable for a 14' jon boat???

I'm in a kayak. There's a private ramp at the 53 bridge and a NCWRC ramp about a mile from the 53 bridge. Look on their website, it shows all ramp locations. It would be the Hunt's Bluff ramp. And yeah, the river is fine for a jon boat.

El cheapo 10' Lifetime sit on top. I've got it hooked up with a better seat and lots of scotty rails for electronics and rod holders. I'm running a Garmin striker 4cv with DI and gps. Making the best out of the yak I can afford.
