    Default Gaston 12/19/19

Went out on Gaston today to look for crappie. I didn't find any crappie so I tried jigging up some white perch. I caught a bunch of perch but it was tough to catch keepers. Highlight of the day was when I rolled past a point with a sharp drop off and i noticed a lot of sonar marks that were oriented like bass would be. I ended up with probably 15 bass out of 19 to 28 feet. All fish were caught on 1/4oz Hopkins spoon vertical jigging. Water temp averaged 49.6. As far as crappie go, once winter hits I'm stumped on crappie. Most of my main lake rock piles that had fish all summer and fall now are vacant of any fish. I've got deep brush and rocks marked on GPS but crappie are gone. Crappie are going to make me struggle til they show up again in June.
Did I see you leaving PeaHill today Genec? I saw a tracker with a high windshield.

Never fished Gaston, but in a lot of the Carolina lakes, crappie follow shad to deep water in the lower sections of the lake or down near the dam.

Get in touch with GeneC. IMO you should be able to find crappie there on main lake points. Looks like your looking in the right spots.
