When slow trolling , how can I get action , with say blue fox spinner or #3 countdown rapala and hold it in 8-12 ft. of water?
Depends on how fast you are trolling. If .2-.4 you could use a 1/2 oz weight. As you increases speed go up in weight. Put a sliding weight on main line then a bead then a #10 swivel. Then use about 3 ft of leader to your bait. That should work in most cases to keep either bait at the depth you want. Now that is the set up I use for pushing off front. If long lining I would use same rig but much lighter weights say from 1/8- 1/2.

When long lining, I use a system of #5 split shot weights. 2 = 1/16th jigs and 1,2 or 3 split shots for depth.
Example - 2 jigs & 3 weights = 15' deep with 40' of line out. ETC. If I push same setup- I use 1 or 2oz weights.

And a lot less line.
When you have poles off the front and go faster than spider rigging speeds +.5 mph some call it pushing. You can push jigs, minnows, cranks and I guess spinner baits now. When you spider rig poles are off front less than .5 typically.
