    Default Night fishing

Thinking of trying the nighttime crappie thing. Any advice/tips from seasoned night fishers? Is a green light a must? Fish over brush? Bridges?

You can use white, green, some even use blue! It's what ever works best for you. Personally I don't like bridges but sometimes I fish brush, sometimes a drop-off. At High Rock both are productive. Some lakes brush isn't as good as a drop-off, some lakes are better on brush than a drop-off.

General info! You set up where the fish are and that's where the bait is found, on a hump or a ledge, a drop off and flat bottom. Don't fish over a brush but near it. Reason is you'll most likely stay hung up a lot. You can draw the bait with any light, white and green are excellent. Place the lights just under the water around six inches or so. This lights the area you are fishing plus some reflects up on you rod and line for easier visibility of the bite. You can also use 12 volt lights above the water with the clamp on painters light fixture. This lights up the area, boat and rod tips. Most paint their rod tips with flat white with spray paint for seeing the rod tap or pull down. About 18 inches from rod tip down to the second or third eye on your rod. Don't paint the eyes. Put tape over them to keep them clear of paint. You will need to set up tight so good anchor system is needed. I know some people move if they don't get bait at first but it is best to sit tight and wait it out. I will hardly ever move once set up. Looking around before setting up and find the bait and where crappie usually hang out is always the first thing to do. If you haven't night fished you have missed out on some of the best times to fish. If you are not sure of what you are doing, then go with someone who fishes at night a lot, then you'll get the hang on the first trip. I know I am leaving something out but go and you'll be a pro before you know it. Everyone fishes different so once you get the idea you can perfect you own way to set up and fish. As Mac Crappie said, come on and join in with the gang. You'll be glad you did. Lots of good friend ship and fun every time. Day trips are just as fun with this bunch of crazies. Hope this helps!

Tell me about these night stalks. Is it a tournament setting? Or just a night where everyone agrees to fish on the same lake, same night, same time? Does everyone fish in the same general area or run to their own little favorite spot? Been a long time reader but never done a lot of fishing at night. Just curious to know what these stalks are all about.

Yes, it's where we all meet at the same place at a certain time and return at a certain time to weigh the fish in and heaviest gets to brag for a while until next outing. No, it's not tournament style. Yes, most go to where they think they can out fish the other fishermen. It's all about friendship and fun. We put a lot into our nightstalks and day trips. I am pleased to be associated with this crowd. Funny guys just being able to let off steam and have fun picking on the Dawgg. I don't think anyone ever has left being mad about anything. If they did they had to be mad at themselves. Come on out and join in and let lose for a short time, it will do you good to meet others and put the faces to the names. There is a lot to bet learned and a lot of B/S to filter out. Only a few lies to told.

Sounds like a lot of fun and a lot of lies to me. Weigh in for biggest single fish?
