Look up the dnr fish attractor locations to start
Hello to my NC fisherman, thank you for letting me join you guys on this wonderful forum.
I'm an invasive species moving in here being that all my life I have mainly been a catfish fisherman with some bass fishing thrown in. I've never actually thrown a jig in for a crappie or sat hunkered over some brush with a minnow on the line looking for a crappie. I've caught a few here and there as by catch but never out right targeted them.
I'm looking to change that, the few I've caught have always been fun hard fighting little fish and I've always admired the culture built around Crappie fishing. So I have been itching to get into it.
I've done some research online but sorry if this is posted all the time but I figured what's better than going right to the source to get some tips from the experts. I'll mainly be fishing from a yak so I won't be able to do much in terms of spot hopping.
I'm not looking for you guys to give up your honey holes but any tips on what to look for in Lake Norman or Mt.Island Lake, some good spots to launch at. What the best kind of baits/lures are for our local lakes. Any tips big or small that could help would be much appreciated.
I have a friend that fished mt island. He says no one fishes the new attractor forests. Might be able to catch something there

Most DNR location get fished but not by daily fishermen. Seems most are occasional fisherman that just don't know where else to fish or just out for the day. If you know what's there and how to fish it they can be good at times. I know one on Wylie that is not fished to much during the day and never seen anyone at night on it other than me once in a while. It produces pretty darn good but it depends on time of year! Go looking around you'll find something down there that's worth fishing. Small jigs and small minnows work best for me day or night! May have to change out jigs to find the right color but keep at it!
on most any lake anywhere, cruise points in 20 - 25 ft.looking for brush piles. You will be surprised by what you can find. Also look on a good map for humps, xtra long points.
