    Default Pond crappie

Went to the pond Easter afternoon for about 1 1/2 hrs. Caught a couple bass and kept 9 crappie. Let 1 go and 1 got off at the boat. This pond is about 1/2 acre, I put crappie in there but haven't had much problem with them trying to take over like a lot of people have. Have no idea what the water temp is but none of them seemed like they were busting with eggs but when I cleaned them some had eggs. While I was there I noticed another beaver was trying to get comfortable but that lasted til yesterday afternoon! Will post a picture later.

I grew up near a 2 acre pond full of everything you can imagine. The only thing that wasn't in there were catfish. My opinion, catfish are what takes over a pond. I loved fishing that pond. Trophy fish to be found in everything in there. Congrats on the catch!

Nice size pond crappie. I'm fishing a hunt club pond in Halifax county and last week crappie were biting on almost every cast. All between 9" and 10 1/2". I did manage a 12 1/2". None of the fish had eggs.

I'd be careful about eating fish from a such a small pond that has beavers. Beavers poop in water and are known to carry parasites and they can release the infectious cysts of the organisms. If you swallow the water, you may become infected.

never heard of cats takin over a pond besides bullheads as channel catfish do not reproduce without log jams or big boxes to nest inside

I've heard tons of things in my life. Experience has taught me to not believe most of them. Read this and notice the ifs and the recommendations. Southeastern Pond Management
