Default Wildlife Commission Adopts Regulations for 2019-20 Seasons

    Public input made a difference:

RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 26, 2019) — The N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission voted at its Feb. 21 business meeting to adopt rules related to wildlife management, fisheries, game lands and law enforcement for the 2019-20 seasons. The effective date for these regulations is Aug. 1, 2019.

Of the 44 proposed rule changes presented during public hearings in January, 43 were adopted. The one proposal that was not adopted would have removed the exception to the general statewide regulation for crappie in B. Everett Jordan Reservoir by reducing the minimum size limit from 10 inches to 8 inches (F10). This proposed change was designed align the size limit for crappie at Jordon Reservoir with other fishing waters across the state. After considering constituent feedback, wildlife commissioners opted to maintain the current 10-inch limit.

Good deal. Couldn’t attend the meeting but did send in my disapproval online.

Hooray! People cheat enough already on the 10 inch limit. Imagine how worse it would be if -- with an 8 inch limit -- they cheated even on this! Stay the course! Speak up! So many of us did! Hope this is the truth! Ms. Catfish

It would take several 8" crappie to make a meal. They ought to rule that any size white perch must be kept too. That would probably help the size of the crappie more than anything, the way I see it. Fortunately, there's no shortage of shad to feed all those fish in Jordan.

Rules and laws are worthless without enforcement. Until they put wildlife officers under the 64 bridge and other places and tickets are issued, there are no rules. Glad they kept the 10 inch 20 per day now enforce it.
