Might be the DUMBEST idea I have heard of in a long time
Freddie, Jimmy, Eddie and I all went to the Public Hearing in Rocky Mount last Thursday. We were the only ones to address the Wildlife officials on keeping the size at 10 inches. This was the last of the Public Hearings across the state, but there is still time to comment on the Wildlife website.
Christian Waters, Chief, Inland Fisheries Division, was at the meeting and we spoke with him quite a bit after the hearing. Christian was one of the officials that was responsible for the 10 inch limit back in 2004. All four of us made a strong case for leaving the 10 inch rule in place and we will continue to have conversations with the Wildlife division.
Well, I talked with one of the NC Wildlife biologists regarding this possible change. I said that the crappie size limit should either stay at the 10-inch limit at Jordan or increase -- not go down to eight inches! People cheat on the ten inch limit already. At an eight inch limit they're just cheat some more. And it's not just the bank fisherman who may commit a misdeed. We don't know what the fellows in the boats are doing. At any rate, it would help if everybody would follow the law. We could all face the terrible possibility that all crappie fishing were stopped. I've seen guys with ten rods at Belle Church Pier -- along with ten bottles with lines more in between each rod -- keeping everything they catch. That's not right! Ms. Catfish.
Submitted my comment online. Hopefully it doesn't go down to eight. Either way I only keep 10" no matter where I fish but a lot of people don't.
