    Default Lake Gaston 9/5/18

Spent most of all day on Gaston today. Caught 5 spotted Bass on top water and kept 3. Caught about 25 crappie and kept 10 biggest. A few bream and very small rockfish were caught in the same location as crappie. I caught a blue catfish close to 20 lbs on a firetiger Gulp minnow. Except for the spotted bass all my fish came on Gulp minnows. Traditional crappie jigs didn't catch squat.Name: IMG_20180905_185157800.jpg

I ended up just 1/16 jig head with Gulp. Anywhere 14 ft down to sometimes within a couple feet of bottom. The fish wanted a still bait with just boat motion on it. Jigging didn't really seem effective. I started out with tandem rigs with jig and Gulp but Gulp was only thing getting bit so when I would get hung and break off I just tied on a Gulp jig. The firetiger Gulps were slightly less effective than the regular Gulp minnow but they were hands down more durable than the regular color minnows. I caught fish with them so that's what I predominantly stuck to. I wish they were more durable. I have been keying in on rock piles near channel edges or drop offs for my crappie. Anything that has a sharp rise and then plunge to deeper water. The side image I included in my post is actually a rock ledge outcrop that sticks out in the creek channel.

Nice report and catch. Seems like your staying on them pretty good there which can be hard to do. Lots of fish for sure in your screenshot, thanks.
