Default Humminbird Helix and micro SD card removal

Hi all. I was curious if any of you with Humminbird Helix units have ever had problems removing the micro SD card from the unit? Or does the card typically slide out freely once you push it in to release and remove it (as it should)? Just curious if users on here have had any issues with the micro SD cards getting stuck or almost stuck in the unit at all?

    Thanks

I question why the went to the micro instead of the standard size SD card. It is hard when your hands are cold and you on the water to handle a card that small.

It's not to make the lives of fishermen tougher, but, more likely the micro sd's connector is a much smaller footprint on the circuit board. Saving space on a circuit board can really make the difference for a successful layout.

Having said that, if you guys are having troubles on the water swapping out cards, you might consider describing the problem and sending them into Humminbird. Sometimes the marketing departments will take up issues like these and drive them back through engineering. It won't fix today's problem, but maybe when they do a re-design they can evaluate it as a feature.

I should have been a little more clear in my question...it was more of a general question and not specific to when on the water. I have a new unit and this is the first time I have used the micro SD cards. I purchased a Lakemaster map card and it seems to fit in okay. However, when I push it in to release it...I can hear it clear to release but it doesn't pop out very far. I'm able to grab the tip of the card with my finger and slide it partially out but it seems to get stuck about halfway out. The only way for me to get the card out past this point is with tweezers and even with those the tweezers slip off as the card is difficult to move past that point. I can eventually get the card out after multiple tries but it is extremely difficult and I'm concerned about the card breaking off in the unit. It seems like the slot in the unit is too narrow or the card is slightly too thick.

I haven't tried a blank micro sd card yet. I'll purchase one of those and try it. That should give me an idea if it is the card or the unit.

Actually, you were sufficiently clear - I just went tangential. My experience has been with the HB 597 and that card will bump out just enough to freely come out of the unit. (Just like it a laptop or camera). Trying another card is a good idea.

By the way, what model is it? I have Helix 5 SI GPS under the tree. I will look for that issue on Christmas day.

I have 2 of the Helix 5's and haven't noticed an issue with either one.

I opened my Helix 5 this morning. I inserted a micro SD (navionics) into the unit. I then tried to remove. A push caused it to pop out a short distance, but then the difficulty began. Impossible to grab with my fingers, I first tried two small flat blade screw drivers to pull from the card slot , but no deal. I then try some tweezers and they kept slipping off. To make matters worse, the housing edge is directly in line with the card travel and that complicates its removal. Definitely a design flaw. I don't want to damage my card, but, having never powered the unit up, I think I will leave it hanging "out" until I get the unit powered up and see if it recognizes the card. For me, the card is not stuck. It is just impeded from removal. Dang.

Sounds similar to what I ran into. It read my Lakemaster card fine but it was extremely difficult to remove. I did try a blank micro SD card but I only inserted about half way before feeling quite a bit of resistance so I stopped. I think you are correct in that something is not aligned properly between the housing and the slot.
