    Default Badin Lake Report

Took a bass fishing guide trip to Badin Thursday afternoon/evening and caught several nice largemouth. The water looks great all over the lake. White perch are on almost every point and will bite almost anything you throw in the water.

I know most of you don't care about bass but I catch them so they won't eat your crappie but I forgot and released them all.

ive heard the striper population is almost nonexistent?? I do know that I havent caught one up there in about 3 years, although havent necessarily been targeting them. Usually pick up a few while catfishing, but havent snagged one in quite some time.

Stripers on Badin are almost non-existent. Myself and two different friends have gone separately about 5 times collectively with a total of "0" stripers caught. One day there were 4 boats that we knew and talked to on the radio, with only 1 small striper caught all day. A recent striper tournament on Badin with several boats resulted in a grand total of 2 stripers being caught. Don't waste your time going after them. I thought I saw a couple break yesterday but I could have been mistaken. We did catch a 20 pound flathead on a crankbait though.

Man what has happened to that lake? Used to be my goto lake for everything, now even catfish can be hard to come by on certain days (juggers)

Its a ghost town alright. Its a shame. Must be from fishing pressure. No big kills that I know of. Some of them have probably gotten use to seeing the standard rigs. Switching up would probably help... that and waiting a few years till some little ones mature. It really looks like to me that the wildlife officers haven't been keeping a good enough eye on the health of the population. Maybe they will adjust the stocking way up the next few years.

Do you know if the wildlife officers are planning any increase in the stocking rates?

One of the problems with stripers on the Yadkin Chain of Lakes is the extremely generous limit. Eight fish per person with a 16 inch minimum is ridiculous. I would like to see it changed to no more than 4 fish per person with a minimum of 24 inches. I know of a couple of people who made the boast that they had caught over 1500 stripers in a year and kept almost all of them. Most of these fish came out of Badin. You cannot eat that much fish. These guys are probably selling them. These same guys were upset because they now could not seem to catch any now. Go figure!
