    Question Trailer tire problem

When I stopped yesterday for gas I thought my left trailer tire looked weird on inside. Checked it out and it was cupped out and worn down on inside 1". Looked at the right one and it's cupped out and worn on outside 1" ???? These tires are hi speed trailer bias tires from Firestone and were $75 each. I know they only have around 1500 miles on them at the most. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this. I thought the cupping was from being out of balance but one wearing on inside and other on outside and both cupping???? I will take them to the Firestone store but I know they'll have some lame excuse. Help.........

did the last set of tires wear? If they wore smooth and even it something with the tires or the way they were mounted. Are the load range E. Proper inflated?

Check tire pressure first. That sounds like the axle is out of line with the trailer.

Add 2-4 pounds and it should stop. On my jonboat I run just enough air for even wear, not sure what the pressure is but I know it's not max. On the big boat trailer I run 40 pounds. The tires max at 50. I got some serious cupping on those tires and talked to my tire man and he said to add some air. When I checked the pressure it was down to 20 pounds.

I've had the boat 2 yrs. and it's an '01. I lost both original tires to blowouts...both had plenty of tread just went bad. They both started bouncing really bad...belt separated or something and blew within minutes. I run 45 lbs in these...max pressure is 50.
Nat...that sounds reasonable to me, the axle out of alignment. How in the world do you get it lined up correctly????

fisher, if its a ridged axle, a frame guy could line it up with no problem.

it is a rigid axle...i presume...just an axle running across attached to the springs. guess i'd better google this and see how to check alignment and such ehhhh...thanks guys

Another thing you can ck yourself is jack up both sides of trailer and have both sides off ground. Grab each tire and try tro move the axle. Sometimes the spring perch supports will work loose and let axle shift which will cause cupping. Theres something like an insert that the axle shaft has on it and it aligns into the spring holders. Being off just a little makes a big difference.
