    Default Nasty tasting Crappie!


    Hey guys, I caught a dozen or so crappie a few weeks ago from Wehrspan, and kept about 8 for dinner. I had a couple of small cats filleted out as well from a trip to SD, and fried up the fillets together. I had the cats, as the girls don't like them, and was astonished when they both spit out the crappie fillets and made faces. I asked what was wrong and they said they tasted like moss. I tasted one and even with stopped up sinuses could taste the strong mossy nastiness. Never had a crappie like that. have any of you experienced that?

    Did you chill them over night or cook them right away? Never had any Crappie from Weherspan taste that bad. The water temps should be coming down by now with the nights getting so cool. The Crappie should have a good flavor! EB

    Ya got ta have a little salad with your meat! When you cleaned them what was in their stomachs? Must have had some moss in there to taste like it. I have caught Bluegills that tasted like moss but they was eating it. EB

    filleted em out, didn't check the stomachs. caught them on jigs --most hit Bobby Garland baby shad in green thunder or electric chicken.
