Default Anyone Know Where to Begin?

I blew the seal(s) on the hydraulic cylinder of the log splitter. I'm sure, knowing the diameter of the cylinder or better yet, the manufacturer, I could find a rebuild kit. But this sort of thing is kinda outside my wheelhouse, so...I was just going to try to find someone to do the job for me.

But...where the heck do you begin to look for someone who does this sort of thing??

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!!

Do a google search for a hydraulic shop in your area or call around to hevy equipment or tractor places. They should help you out. Good hydraulic shop should have parts and repair fairly cheap.

Not hard to change a seal on a ram, I'm sure you could find a YouTube video as well.
Once you disassemble, there is a number on the seal so you can get the right one.

Yep...full disclosure: It was my brother-in-law's splitter. So...gonna get it back to him in better condition than I found it. It was already leaking some hydraulic fluid so the seals had to be compromised already. Thanks for all the replies!

Piece of cake! Buy some carb cleaner to clean the cylinder. Do not spray it on your new seals either.

    1. Make sure you have the correct rebuild kit
    A. Make sure you have all the tools needed to remove and tear down. Sometimes it requires a special spanner for the end caps
    2. Drain remaining fluid as best as possible
    3. Remove cylinder from splitter
    4. Clear a clean place to tear it down - clean the inside and the pistons
    5. Remove one seal at a time, replace with new seal - KEEP IT ALL CLEAN
    6. Put hydraulic fluid on new seals
    7. Put it back together the way you took it apart

That is it really! Having the correct tools & replacement seals ready before you start is 80% of the battle.

I second Bolin Hydraulics. Chip does top notch work. But depending on the cylinder, most are very easy to repack.
