    Default Hook in thumb. Ouch

Spent a week in Canada chasing fish. Reeled in a nice yellow perch and somehow before I even touched the fish it flipped like crazy and buried a treble hook in my thumb. Fish still attached and flipping like crazy. OUCH. Started hollering for hubby to help. By the time he got to me the fish had flipped off. Thank goodness but hook was buried. To deep for us to try and get out. So he used side cutters to cut hook. Went back to cabin and was sent to dr. In next town. A little numb juice and it was out. Antibiotics, cream and bandaid. Bill was $37. That is all. I couldn't believe it. Very nice doctor and avid fisherman. His favorite fish is crappie he gets ice fishing. Sat and talked fishing for a while. Showed us a pic of his mom when he was a kid holding a pike over 60". She was 5' and fish was taller than her. He was from northern Manitoba. Will post more later on fishing trip. Still on vacation. Glad your on the mend. Your post reminded me that my mother had a largemouth bass throw the hooks of a broken back Mirror lure into her thumb one time. She said it was the largest bass they had ever hooked, my father had caught many over 10lbs, but pain of the hooks was too great and she lost her grip and the bass.

A lot of years ago, while in the service,I got to pike fish some.Wire leaders and good size red and white(mostly) daredevils. It was a real(no pun intended)hoot.A 34 1/2 incher is a dandy pike.Congratulations.It's easy for me to tell remembering past end enjoying present northern vacations means a lot to you all...Enjoy every second and be safe

Seems like it's always the little squirmy ones that nail ya with the hooks.

Had it happen to me when trying to get the treble hook of a blade bait out of the mouth of a small Hybrid Striped Bass. One wiggle too many and one hook found its way into the side of my thumb and under the thumbnail. Fishing partner no help, as he's squeemish when blood is involved. Ended up holding a piece of ice on it til it got numb, then wiggled the hook back "almost" out ... then just yanked it the rest of the way out. Wrapped it up in bandaids and went on fishing the rest of the day.
