Default What Lake Has The Best Bank Fishing

Looking for some suggestions on where the best little lakes or ponds are to take the kids to catch crappie from the shore.

Lots of places to bank fish on Truman. Get your google maps out and follow the old roads on the upper end of the lake.

Ditto what Jigfisherx said, there are so so many places at Truman it is hard to even start. With the little ones you might want to check out the areas around Warsaw. There is the harbor in downtown or below the dam both reliable spots during the spawn. If you are more adventurous there are countless old roads that end in the water most have fun fishing if you hit it right. Google Earth is a great way to fine the out of the way spots. Good Luck!!!

Had a relative lived in Lenexa. Close to them on the west side of 29-435 was a cons. area with a nice small lake. Lots of room for kids and fish. I am sure you can find it on MDC or google. Good luck.

I think you're referring to Guy B. Park Conservation Area up near Platte City. Check that link for more info and directions.

As Hookin' & Cookin' said, Watkins Mill will allow for a crap-ton of crappie from the banks and is easily accessible during daylight hours.

    Or there's Smithville Lake:

Using Google Maps on your smart phone, put in any of the GPS coordinates listed and it will take you to the driveway entrance to the parking area for each so you can't miss it. Then...explore and have fun. All have extensive shoreline to spread out and walk along and for kids to run and play when they get bored. All are relatively easy to get to (not handicap accessible, necessarily, but...still...pretty easy.)

    Couple Notes:
A: This area is perhaps one of the easiest to get to. Park in the lot and fish the south side, or fish the north side by parking along side the road and walking down. Don't be afraid to try the west end of that bridge.
B: This has a lot more walking from the circle straight north to where you will access the lake. Check for ticks after walking this. Can be a pain if you're carrying a crap-ton of stuff all the way down there.
C: Pretty easy walk down here. Lots of timber in that cove, so while casting roadrunners or beetle spins can be productive, you will probably also be retying a lot. Minnow under a bobber can be fun for the kids.
D: The entry for this area is right across from the marina. Super easy access. Very little walking. Can get crowded.
E: Bear in mind that you will have to pay to enter this area. No fishing from the boat ramp docks, but around them can be good from what I hear. I've never done it.

Like Joedog said, if going to Smithville "Spot A" is probably the easiest. Parking lot is very very close to where you'd be fishing. During the spawn I've always had success there. It's where I go 90% of the time if I'm bank fishing up there.
