    Default Pre-Spawn Tactics

I thought we could share come ideas on fishing this time of year. Not asking for specific locations just what everyone's kind of go to was for this time of year. Dipping, Brush Piles, Rigging etc. Might help some of the less experienced guys (like me lol).

All Ive ever done this time of year was Rig and it wasn't too productive saturday.

I'd say the most consistent productive way to fish the pre-spawn is with a cork. The fish are just moving up but the water is still cold, so letting the bait sit will make for an easier meal. The fish aren't to willing to chase when the water is high 40's to low 50's. Look for shallow brush or secondary points leading into a spawning cove. I also like corking the front of docks (by front I mean between the dock and bank) that have big rock. Last year I thought the crappie would be on the bank bc the water was in the mid 60's. Turned out they were still pre-spawn out in the middle of a creek chasing shad. Anytime I see that on my graph it's time to troll cranks, and I loaded up pretty good.

As this month goes on I will rig closer to the actual spawning banks on the first good drop off out from the actual bank line. Sometimes it's 6 in to 9 or could be 8 drop to 12. Females will setup in that depth change and be ready to move up when the time is right.
With that said right now it's all about the shad and feeding up before the spawn. Finding and staying with the shad is the ticket. Can be done dipping or rigging but you have to stay on the move.
