Just to possibly save someone else in the future - the "pee" stream is not an indicator of adequate water pressure/flow to your motor. it just shows your pump is spinning. You can have a stream at 1/4 pound of pressure. Having a water pressure gauge is the only way to know if the motor is going to stay happy

Personally, I watch the water pressure and change when it starts dropping. Some motors are very sensitive to overheating and seizing. That little piece of rubber is to cheap and easy not to replace every few years at least. Just good insurance. To each their own, i prefer not to have to buy a new motor/rebuild any time soon if 13 bucks can save it.

Thanks for the input. I'm still holding 30 psi on my gauge so I think I will change out both the pump and the gauge just to make sure. Makes me think that after 17 years, one of them is lying. That dern boat as more hours on it than many half its age.

I have had mine since 2008 and never changed i do watch my pressure gauge tho it has had 27 pounds since i got the boat. But i do agree probably should change. I do not run my motor out of the water either very fast way of ruining water pump.

They can go from 20-30 lbs to 0 in about 2 seconds. Unless you have a pressure and temp gauge and really watch it it's to late most times. A lot of the newer rigs have a alarm for temp but some don't.

I changed my impeller today. Posted earlier and want to thank you folks for bringing up the topic. My impeller was in ok shape but the case had some where and I changed it all out.. Also had my 16 year old pressure gauge checked and it was junk and replaced it.

you will be much better off with a new pump. That old one was probably hard and developing cracks in the rubber which can cause a failure at any time.
Glad you got it all changed.

Just to finish this thread on my part. My water pressure gauge was lying. Put old gauge on a pressure check. At 2psi input it was showing 30psi . I took it to 45psi and it never changed at any point in between. Some reason any applied pressure read the same all the way up. A new gauge tested within 5psi through its whole range. 5 seems like a lot of variable but it was only a $40 gauge. I probably should have bought a higher quality one. My point is check your equipment once in while. Happy and safe fishing my friends.

One more thing, I would like to thank you folks for this topic. It brought this to my attention and may have saved me from problems on the water, plus I would like to thank Crappie.Com for providing this platform for us to share quality information. Be safe my friends
