    Default Rough day near Smithville

Thirty years of boat and utility trailers and never had this problem. Wheeled into Camp Branch, circled around to launch and CLUNK, looked back in the mirror and saw my tire laying on the ramp, crap! Bearings failed, hub came off with wheel. I usually stay on these pretty good just for this reason. Brought hub into work and cleaned it up, I think it should be alright, still need to clean and check spindle, at least it didn't land on the spindle. So I just ate my sammich and drank a bottle of water ( beer when I got home ) and waited on the wrecker, hats off to GT Tow, he showed up in about 20 min loaded it and dropped it in my garage. With any luck maybe I'll be back on the water soon.Name: 20150813_202807.jpg

Headed for the lake Thursday am and heard that awful sound my self. Turned around and limped to the service station. Need a new axle. Oh well.....B.O.A.T. Hopefully back on the water next week.

Hope you both get them trailer axles fixed soon.

Clownfish did the nut come off the end of the axle? Previous owner may have forgot the cotter pin. I'm sure you will check the other one also.

Dang that sucks, at least you were able to limp it to the station, hope they get you fixed up. I looked at mine a little closer last night and the axle should be ok but the hub is not usable, mine doesn't have the zerk on the back but that sounds like a good idea. I packed these before spring camp, the only thing I can figure is that I used regular wheel bearing grease this time because that was all I had at the time, usually use marine grade. The nut and cotter pin was the only thing left on the axle. Your right Dave this year is being a little tough on me, but the worst was standing on the ramp watching everybody go by. Now my underwear and the ramp both have a permanent skid mark.

Man that's crazy! good to hear it happened at the ramp and not while doing 60+ down the highway!

Never a good idea to have a year like Dave!

I was coming in and saw that wrecker flatbed loading you up. Got home and filled my hubs, had a little water shoot out of one. Just got done packing bearings, replacing seals and filling them up with new grease an hour ago. It was not a bad evening on the lake that day.
