    Default Great News!

Started getting some of those medical bills from all the tests that I have been getting done. Been dreading it! Got a couple invoices the other day from Doctors Hospital here in Springfield. That is where I normally get all my tests done due to the fact that is where my doctor works out of. All our major stuff is done thru Cox Hospital with the insurance. Well I am lucky that I am covered under Paula's medical insurance that is Blue Cross - Blue Sheild. Well on these invoices we had opened them a couple of days ago and really hadn't looked at them close. This morning we looked at them close to start figuring how we were going to get everything paid. The invoices showed how much the insurance had paid and on the middle of the invoice it said, We are offering a 50% discount. I told Paula yeah right that is a crock! So I had her call this morning at 7 am. And the gal on the phone told her that it was correct that Doctors Hospital was offering until April 15 a 50% discount. So I told her to get out my debit card asap and get them paid fast. So the gal found a couple of more invoices that we have not gotten yet and she gave Paula the amounts on them too. So we got them paid too. The gal told her that they were doing the special during tax season.

What this tells me is that they are over charging because the invoice shows the amount of charges, the amount paid by the insurance and the insurance contractual adjustment.

I know its been years since I have had any major medical stuff done. But everytime I have been having all this stuff done everyone seems very concerned on how they are going to get their money.

With this diabetes just the meds I have to take daliy it seems that the insurance don't cover as much as it used too.

My mom's Dr. had a notice in her office monday that they gave a 20% discount to noninsured patients if bill was paid at visit time. That is the first time that I saw that.

Nothing tricky about it. It's a very common practice. Many hospitals with offer big discount after an insurance has paid on the patient's balance if paid in short order.

Glad to hear the financial impact was bearable.

I had a heart valve fixed last August. I was OOP (out of pocket) $2500. My ded. is $1500 and then it is 90/10 of the next $10,000. Not a bad share of $83,000.
The best way to get to where you want to be in the future is to act like you are there TODAY.

Wife and I have never gotten any discounts before or even offered any! I am waiting to see what Cox Hospital does on their billing.

I currently have friends in Cox Hospital and my father inlaw in St Johns or what ever they are calling it today! And my word is that both hospitals don't have any open or free rooms! Paula's dad had surgery on Thursday, yesterday, and they are having to keep him in ICU because they don't have any open rooms to put him in! Paula asked them tonight if there would be a correction in the billing! SO DON'T GET SICK IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI!!!!!!
