Default Tips for crappie fishing at Mark Twain lake

We are heading to Mark Twain lake in a couple of days, and was wondering if anyone has fished it lately.

Any tips or advice are welcome, such as depth of fish, areas or structure to try .....

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Second hand response here since I'm now down in NC however, Dad fishes it weekly. Seems like it's been a weird year all the way around..... crankbait bite was good then dried up a bit. If I were giving it a go, I'd focus on main lake timber/brush, maybe sneak inside the mouths of larger creeks in the event some have started their fall journey. I would definitely have my riggin sticks in the boat but start single poling timber in deeper water.

Haven't seen many of the regular, dependable MTL boys on here lately but maybe they'll post for ya. South Fork Resort is under new ownership and looks like they are updating their website/blog/fishing report:

Might be worth calling them to see if they can provide you any direction.

I sent South Fork a ? and they didn't respond! I'm guessing that running the business will be more than worrying about attracting guests than worrying about the fisherman! They must not spend any money there.

Been tough with no real pattern. They are in 2 FOW on the bottom out to 40 FOW just above the thermocline. They do seem to prefer a minnow over artificial right now. Be careful lake is 4 foot below normal pool and several obstructions just below the water line right now.

Went yesterday to highway J bridge and fished the shady side of the pilings. Had very good success, with the three of all limiting out by noon. LOTS of dinks were caught, with a few slabs mixed in, with the 3 best right at 10".

I fished a slip cork with a minner at 12' over 35 to 65 FOW. The other 2 fished just a nose hooked minner and small sinker, but I seemed to do a little better with the slip rig. They were tight up against the concrete pilings, and the slip rig kept it in their faces a bit better.

Sorry, no pictures as I was wrapped up in the fun, and
Didn't even think to bust out the camera until we were done cleaning fish.
