    Default Questions about Trolling rods

So, what is everyone using to troll crankbaits? I have been looking around and the options are overwhelming.

I really like using 4 rods 2 12ft southern crappie trolling rods. And 2 8ft cabela's depthmaster trolling rods. I use 2 oz. trolling weights a flourocarbon leader and then lures. The trolling weights with line counter rods really let me turn corners quickly and not get tangled.

I like 12' Sam Heaton Super Sensative Rods, 14' tony edgar trolling rods, and I have some 18' Denali Pryme rods (I don't use the 18' rods unless I am running 8 rods out the back and need the spread).

All work really well. For me, its a matter of matching the lengths to get a good spread without crossing lines. I started with all 7' medium action baitcasting rods (Bass Pro brand).

Most important part is to have rods that have a soft tip - helps keep the fish on the line.

Thank you for the great tip, did not think of that

    I run 8, 10, 12, & 14’ PST’s off each side of the back of the boat.

    Hey there Miller,
Just about everyone is set up a bit different. What I use and like is BnM PST’s in 8,12,and 16 foot on each side to achieve 4 foot of separation between crank baits for occasional slow gradual turns. The separation is important to me to prevent lines fouling each other. Good luck with getting set up.

I mainly use PST’s except for my planer board rods. They have to be medium heavy at the lightest

I tried pushing with a couple of 14’ Capps and Coleman and 2 oz weight. It is possible, but I’d like a little more backbone. I ended up ordering a couple of 12’ PSTs to give them a shot. MidwayUSA has sale on them with free shipping. I was going to purchase Southern Crappie, but didn’t want to pay $30 in shipping.

Miller - What did you wind up with? I'm starting to look for rods to push cranks with, up to 3oz weights.
LACrappie master, how did the BnM's work out?

The PSTs had noticeably more backbone than the Capps & Coleman. However, as of now I’m not ready to purchase more PSTs unless I break the Capps & Coleman or gather more data, as I haven’t been able to fish with them much. I didn’t use 3 oz, only 2 oz.
