Default Bamboo condo's do you strip them or leaves on?

have noticed some wild bamboo near my home and plan on whacking some down to put condo's around my dock where I keep the toon. Have seen guys with a lot of leaves left on but does it make sense to strip them first?

We always left the leaves on, but by the time we hauled them from Louisiana to Iowa strapped in a jon boat they were pretty clean LOL Bamboo lasts a long time submerged.

I have wild cane around me on the river.
It is considered endangered and can’t cut it.
