Default What do you recommend - slack water or Gravois

I primarily fish MTL and LOZ Glaize arm but am starting to explore new waters. Last week I spent a day on Stockton and was thinking of heading to a place I have never fished on Friday. I have always wanted to spider rig in the slack water below Truman dam and also want to fish the Gravois arm. For those of you who know both areas what would you do this time of year? Weather is going to be warmer than earlier this week but fairly breezy.
Are minnows available near Warsaw? If I go to Gravois I would probably shoot docs or single pole in coves.
    Appreciate your expertise.

Sent you a pm. The gas station on the road to the dam usually has minnows. If not Cody's on hwy 7 should. If the water is low which I imagine it would be I would launch out of Drake harbor downtown Warsaw. Or if it is open the east bledsoe landing has a ramp but you usually have to back out quite far to get off the trailer which can lead to wet feet when you take out.

There are some decent places to spider rig in Gravois this time of year. Back of creeks are good right now. Dock shooting is slow at the moment.

I've been out on the slack water many times over the past year. My best luck was in water 14-18' and sometime on the edge of 20'. The further you get back into the cove in my experiences anything over 15' of water you start pulling up a lot of whites and stripers. Plus I was told if the water is flowing, this time of the Walleye can be found around the buoys. I run a minnowed hook and a dropper minnowed jig. My favorite color is a lime/dark green combo you can find at Walmart and Bass Pro. I put a body on them, I use a black and green tail from Walmart, $2 for 50. Occasionally I'll tip them with a Bobby Garland body, but I don't like throwing them away because whites and stripers tore them up.

Like ripinlips said Philips 66 usually has minnows. 915 Main St, Warsaw, MO 65355

There is also Cody's on Hwy 7 on the other side of the bridge on your left.

I fished there last week on Friday from noon to 5pm.

Your best bet for slack water fishing is early spring when they are running water from Truman to raise LOTO. That usually happens starting late March through early May. I like them to be running 20,000cf/s+ and I primarily spider rig. I see quite a few people who don't rig simply fish with two rods; one in each hand. As TheRo0sTer said, 14-18' is where I usually am, sometimes shallower, sometimes deeper. I always use minnows that time of year. I've been down to fish at the dam and sometimes there might be 50 boats in a 100 yard stretch. Don't let that intimidate you. Most everyone is friendly and there to have a good time.
