When I first started bass fishing seriously over 50 years ago assumed once hard frost or freeze came in the fall that the fish went deep and wouldn’t bite. Bought some new spinner baits and went out Christmas Day to try them out one time. To my surprise a 3+ lb. Kentucky about took the rod out of my hand. That changed my life. Cost me couple jobs, one wife, lots of sleep, and many, many thousands of dollars . To each their own but I’d rather fish September thru December than the spring months which is what most people prefer. And that includes a couple or three species including crappie.

If I could leave work right now to go chase some crappie, I would! I have to pay the bills or gas bill that is.

Default Fall / Winter fishing searching

I was out fishing Monday this week at MTL. Caught fish from 10’ to 15’ right on the bottom. Home made jig was best. Kept 9 fish most of them 11” inches to 12.5” inches . They really fight hard this time of year. Lots of fun! Look for lay downs. Name: IMG_0660.jpg

Default Fall / Winter fishing searching

I fished Truman yesterday and really wanted to spider rig, but the fish just weren’t leaving their cover, so I dipped trees. I managed a limit, but it was tough. I fished 8-14 FOW, 8-12 feet down with minnows and a crappie bomb. Fish didn’t seem to be schooled real great, so at most, I caught two or three off of a tree before I had to move to the next. I’ve attached pictures of rigs I tie (one is the order sheet since the rigs don’t photograph well) and the fish I caught yesterday. I hope you are able to find some in the near future!
