    Default Trolling for crappie

How many of y’all troll crankbaits for crappie? I’m looking to get in to trolling for them but don’t know what kind of crank bait to get . I heard bandit 300 and flicker shads work well but what else is out there? What is your trolling speed and what do you look for in a trolling spot?

You can find all about it on the Mississippi page there is a big sticky on it. It can be lots of fun and productive.

I use Flickers mostly. Bandits are great, but expensive. Arkie and Picos are good baits too.

Crappie can be just about anywhere. I've caught them on main lake points trolling for walleye, random shorelines, around clusters of brush (make sure your baits run over the top of it) and suspended over deep water.

    I run 1.5-2.5 mph mostly.

Bandit is my go to crankbait. I'm at the 61mm of LOZ, the water here has a little more stain and is shallower than down lake, so I fish mostly 200's, 12lb. Trilene Big Game, 1.1-2.1mph. Depending on time of year, crappie could be just about anywhere. As @ripnlips said check out the Mississippi board for the trolling sticky. If you're brand new to trolling, use the equipment you've got to start and add as you go. WARNING: Trolling is highly addictive so be prepared to drain the bank account!

I look for bait fish ....in the lakes I fish in MS that is shad. Find large concentrations of shad on your fish finder and run your crank baits a couple feet above them. I run them 1.6 to 1.9 mph. Most of the time I am following the edges of old creek and river runs that were there before the reservoir was built. I use Pico crankbaits.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

At mark twain you can for sure catch fish trolling the edges of the timber along the bluffs. I havent caught much for big ones, but have caught quite a few.
