Default Lake of the Ozarks for a Newb.

Howdy everyone. I’m planning on taking a week long camping and fishing trip to LOZ and being a total newb to MO and LOZ as a whole I was hoping people could direct me in the best portions/arms of the lake to fish.

It’s huge and google has been helpful in the tip that shooting docks is always a good thing (nothing I didn’t know before and that goes for any lake). I’m headed there either the first of second week in September and my boat is setup to spider rig, troll cranks, jig hardwoods...pretty much anything for crappie.

I have not booked a campground yet but I was looking at State Park on the Grandglaze arm. Is that side of the lake productive or should I be looking at different arms, long rides or a different campground on a different side of the lake? Thanks for your input

I'm not much on Lake of The Ozarks, but I can tell you this there's very little structure,if any it will be found way up the river. Boat Docks everywhere, and Boats " BIG Boats " everywhere, it's a very hard lake to run. The Glaze Arm should be the easiest, except they have the party cove , but with a no wake zone. There is good fishing on the lake you just have to fish it at the right time of day . Watch Mike Baker Video's on you tube that will probably help. Be Safe
    I Don't Know,but I can always use help

I appreciate the feedbake and help. His videos are what made me even consider a trip there but all the ones I have seen were him spider rigging and pulling cranks. I might avoid it until the cooler months when the boat traffic dies out and look for something a little less than a 7 hour drive from me.

Personally, I would not be on that lake until after Halloween, any time between Halloween and May 1 is a good time to go. Otherwise lots of big boats will be out. There are crappie all over that lake, theres not really a bad spot there.

I agree with May 1 - Halloween. We were with friends in a new 24’ tri toon, a wall of water cane over the bow and swept everything to the stern, soaked us all. You know there’s no way the average fishing boat could survive that. As for fishing every dock is structure that hold fish. Look for fishing boats on lifts or fish baskets in slips and you’ll find sunken brush in the area. Once I got side scan I was surprised how much structure there is you can’t see.

Unless your looking for the tourist traps and bars at LOZ you might consider Mark Twain Lake. The guys on here clean up crappie fishing it. The lake looks amazing, one of these days I'll go see it. It should be an easier drive for a Kentucky boy(than LOZ).
Or Truman and Stockton are great lakes too, but further to drive.

For LOZ I'd wait until November and slip cork minnows and pitch jigs in boat wells on the lower end and Gravois. Bring a couple 10 foot poles
