I would've LOVED to see that, Brian! Great Story!
Looks like the Tebo Arm is starting to slow down a little bit, the last couple of days most of the crappie I caught were males holding tight to brush. Funny thing happened to me Saturday evening, I was swinging a big crappie into the boat and the line broke right above the bobber and the crappie fell back in the water taking my bobber with it never to be seen again so I thought.
Had a boat next to me and while I was tying on I was telling the guy that the crappie just took off with my favorite bobber and about that time I seen a red glow under the water and the crappie went right back to the stick I caught him from. lol So I got my net out and tried to net him but he jumped out of the net and the water got muddy and thought well there goes my chance but nope the crappie came back to that stick four more times and I never could get him with a net but I hooked my bobber for a second and with a short fight he was gone again. I was laughing so hard thinking this crappie is dedicated to guarding his nest that if I do catch him I'm going to release him and about that time the bobber and jig popped to the surface.
Just bought a GoPro camera the other day and I forget to take it with me, I wish I would of got this on video.
MontanaBoy thanked you for this post
That would have made for one awesome video. It is very telling of the resilience of spawning fish. Thanks for sharing.

Cool Story
Very similar thing happened to me and my son. We didn't catch the fish but seen a bobber swimming around, we'd get close and under it would go. Chased it for a while joking it was like Jaws taking barrels down. We did finally catch the bobber and it had a 12" crappie on the end, gold hook and all. Might have been the unluckiest fish ever got away and still ended up in the frying pan.

Yep I couldn't believe after being caught once and net smacking him at least four times he would of gave up. Twenty minutes later it happened again but this time the crappie spit the jig after about thirty seconds and the bobber came up, I use 8 pound line but throwing to the bank and in brush is hard on the line. I went back Sunday and tried to get him to bite but I think he has learned his lesson. Future 3 pound crappie.
Great story. Once a few years back My son and arkyfisherman and I where fishing the cut threw and Bud baited his pole. Layed it down and bink in the water it went. 15 minutes later I looked there was the cork handle. I broke 2 other poles to get it and it still had the white bass on it.Remember it like yesterday.
Great story! I'm headed out to that area without my boat hopefully we can pick a couple up from the shore.

An old trick to find where the crappie are when schooled up without a fish finder is catch one and hook a length of line with a bobber on it and turn it loose, then follow the bobber. the released crappie will go back to the school.....

Hey the hooked fish on a bobber works. I fished with a North Carolinian for several years and he did that all the time. Spawn or no spawn.
