So someone asked if I was long lining or spider rigging. I thought "tight line" "long line" and "spider rig" were all the same thing.
    Whats the difference if any?

I have never figured out "tight lining," but always consider "long lining" to be trolling behind the boat or at least that is what I have always called it.

Spider rigging can be on either end of the boat....multiple poles fanned out....weights on the rig any where from half to three quarter oz. Depth controlled by weight and length of line out. Slow speed varying from .1 to .2 mph.

Long lining is pulling jigs on poles usually behind or off the sides of the boat.....no weight is added...cast jig out as far as you can...usually about 30 ft. Speed will vary from .3 to .9 mph.....depth is controlled by weight of jig and your speed.....slow down to go deeper....speed up to go shallower.

Tight lining to me is vertical jigging (not trolling) around a tree or sunken brush pile or structure.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I agree on the first two .... but "tightlining" to me has always meant "still fishing" (as my Grampa called it), which is being tied off or anchored and fishing straight down over the side of the boat.

    Vertical...
Straight down...tight line....no bobber...bait not on bottom....boat not moving ... equals tight line fishing to me

    Hey "G" and Crappiepappy,
So long as were talking fishing let's expand on the original question for some other folk's benefit....
Pushing,Pulling,Power-Trolling,Single Poling, and Double Poling...Just for the record and yes I know terminology is different in different areas of the country but as a Missouri Hillbilly I was usually cat fishing when tight lining.Just saying
Sorry but I left out Dippin.....Fishin Vertical on the move with the boat from target to target looking for the next THUMP will forever be my favorite crappie fishin.

Ok Doke guess I'm gonna answer my own general info question...
    Pushing is weighted poles,front out the boat,usually 1 to 2 ounce weights,using a variety of offerings...crankbaits,jigs,minners.
Pulling can be front or back of the boat with mostly horizintal lines again with a variety of offerings.
Power trolling is front or back (often up front) with a stiff enough pole (usually fairly long...12-16 or so feet),using 2 to 3 ounce weights and roadrunners or action tail (curl) jigs doing around .8 to about 1.2 mph.
Single - poling is fishing one rod mostly vertical.
Double- poling is the same for the ambidextrous fishermen with a rod in each hand.
Dippin is vertical offering your jig,jig/minner while hoping to get mildly excited when our favorite fish provides a THUMP when he sucks in the bait.
    Feel free to elaborate,correct,or expand.
