We went to the Osage today. We caught a few small catfish. Had another light bite. Picked up rod and slow pulled because we use circle hooks. Fish pulled back. I told hubby this isn’t small. Started taking line. Hubby reeled in lines and pulled anchors so we could follow. Took us into middle of river. It would take line then I would get some back. Then it would stop and I couldn’t budge it at all. We played that game for maybe 30 minutes. My arms were getting tired. I thought my Ugly Stik rod was going to break. Using the motor we made sure it didn’t get under boat. We just back and forth. It would take line and then I would get some back. At 1 point we saw bubbles and boil several feet from where my line was going. But finally my 40 lb mono broke. It broke between hook and 3 way swivel. I have caught 44 and 36 lb sturgeon and this was MUCH bigger. Just wish I could have at least seen it but it wouldn’t come any where near the surface. Our guess is a large catfish or lake sturgeon.

We do too. Wish I could have gotten it up to boat to at least take a pic. Dip net would have been no use. Hubby had a rope and sleeves pushed up. It acted like a huge lake sturgeon. Was hoping it would get tired and come up. I know my arms were getting tired.

had that happen at Reelfoot and fish pulled us around for an hour. My buddy hooked it with his crappie rig and 6 lb mono and after half hour he was worn out so I took over. I pulled and pulled and had him coming up to boat but right before we could see it finally line broke but it was a monster. figured it was one of those huge buffalo or might have been cat. will never know
It would have been neat to see that fish......
It was a new world record crappie. You can call it that when things like that happen.
What a fight, Gotta love it!
Gosh that is the absolute fun part of fishing ya never know whats at the other end of your line.
