Good question Joe, my wife and I were wanting to move down to the lake in a few years, but never really thought about getting drydocked until we drove through Laurie a few years ago and it was dried up. Course knowing my luck I'll end up in a van down by the river.

LOZ has a lot of options for living and excellent fishing. Just watch how deep the dock is, boat traffic areas, and how close the place is to local shopping. Personally I'm not the type that wants a 45 min drive to the grocery store but that's me. Oh and watch which side of the toll bridge your on!

Yes. I have a friend who has a place around 80mm and it gets down to about 6 inches deep at their dock in winter, but there are a bunch of places that still have 4' of water or more during draw down. We can't lower the lift at our place way up the little niangua during the peak draw down. We have almost zero issues with boat traffic, but I'd make sure you'll be able to use your hoist all year at the place you buy.

Cant beat a place on LOZ with your own private dock. If you're concerned about big boats stay above the 40 mm and you shouldn't have too many issues.

I’ve been at LOZ for 3 years now. Grand Glaize arm. At first the boat traffic was overwhelming to me. But now I’ve gotten a kind of rhythm to it all. I fish from daylight til 10 am then head for the dock. Enjoy the day then head back out around 5 or 6. About 90 percent of the boating is done from 10-5. And much of it is Saturday. Week days are ok. And when you have your own place year round you just stay off the water Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day.
I would agree that it’s a great crappie lake but I’d say year round

My question is water clarity... grand glaze always muddy up in the spring? Main lake better for consistent water color?

We've had a place at the 61mm (Ivy Bend) for ten years. Lots less boat traffic. We've got a 17' aluminum deep V and don't feel overwhelmed by boat wakes. I've taken my daughter and friends tubing on the 4th of July and been fine.
The fishing is great. I tend to not fish weekends anymore since I retired. Get the chores done then!
We're in a shallow cove so the dock sits in the mud during drawdown. Wig Wam access is not far from me so we launch from there during low water. Lots of shallow coves in the area. Year round water depth is pretty tough to come by in the Bend. The south side of the lake is an even better option in my opinion since you still have easy access to Truman and, Pomme and Stockton aren't too far away.
Of course Truman has many benefits as well. We end up at Bucksaw several times a year for something different.
Lots to consider. Keep us posted on your choice and good luck.

We are trying to plan a trip back up to the LOZ areas to look at some other houses in 2 or 3 weeks. If we can’t make it sooner I have to be back September 16 for a golf outing at Lake Valley. Of course we hope to bring the boat and fish also while we are there! I’ll probably be asking if we should pull crankbaits or spider rig minnows.

My folks are on the main channel Joe and it's never been dry docked. But it does get shallow during winter. 4-5 fow.
That's when I set all my brush around the dock.?

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.
