Default LOZ trip Little Skeeter vs Wind vs boat traffic

Well I took off Monday 15 April to fish LOZ for the first time in 6 years. Went to Swinging Bridges dirt ramp since that is where I like to fish mostly. Got there at 10:00 am. Couldn't put in due to the fact that the creek has changed so much since I was there last. So I went and put in at Mccubbins. Headed into the lake around 54 bridge and tried to fish some docks first. Didn't last long as big boat traffic nearly threw me out of the boat and the boat came out of the water. Headed up the glaize. Lots of people running around and fishing the banks. I passed up a lot of spots due to the amount of boats fishing the banks. Never saw anyone actually catch anything. Finally got back to the area I wanted to start in. Caught 15 crappie in 30 min but none were 9 inches. Caught 10 bass that were between 9-13 inches, and two big bream that I contemplated keeping but threw them back. Fish I caught were not on the bank but just off of them in 3-4 foot of water about 2 feet down since the water was so low. By this time I was tired and bruised up from the white cap waves. I am sure the fish are there, just didn't have the energy to stay longer than 2 pm to find them. There is a big set of flats up there and I did see some pelicans catch some decent crappie on them. Saw one bill a crappie that looked to be at least 12 inches and the other pelicans started to try and take it from him, lol.

Sorry my report isn't that helpful. But the truth cant hurt either. I learned a few things though. Oh I caught my fish on red/chart.

Hope this helps someone, and good luck to you.

I don't fish up there very much, but this year I fished two Bass tournaments so far and I've had about enough of that medicine up there on that water. The sport boat traffic is horrendous. I thought my 18'4" Champion was going to the bottom on several occasions.

LOZ is an awesome fishery but it can defiantly throw you a beat down!

Thanks for the report. I hate to see what the weekend was like if that was on Monday.

I know how you feel, I fished last week in some high winds and it beat the heck out of me. Lol. I limped around for a couple of days. Sucks getting old.

Bigby, I am getting older, that is just a fact as we are all getting older. No one is getting younger. I was just extremely hard on my body when I was growing up and through my younger adult life. I deal with it and move on. Normally since I am a very persistent person, I would have stayed and continued to fish till dark, which I do believe would have resulted in some good crappie being caught.

Like I said, not sure if what I provided was helpful or not, but there it is none the less.

I always preferred fishing midweek during turkey season and didn't have hardly anyone else out on boat. must have been 20 years ago tho.
