    Default Crappie Line Selection?

Do any of your guys have a preferred type of line that you like to use for Crappie? And do you find that a certain line or specific pound test line is superior to other lines you have tried/used?

I used to only use 4lbs Original Stren monofilament line. However, The last couple of years I have switched to the 8lbs Berkeley Nanofil. Do you think those two lines are comparable? Or do you think one of those two is better than the other? And if so, what is your reasoning or evidence?

    Thanks!

I am not a line snob or scientist. I have used Mr. Crappie 6lb line for many years now, for jig fishing, or minner fishing. I have nothing bad to say about it. The only time I don't use it is in extremely thick cover or sharp rocks. I have poles set up with spider wire 15lb braid for that situation and it works great. I do however, use a fluorocarbon liter of 6lbs tied to 10 Mr. Crappie line when I troll. Seems to work for me. And none of it is very expensive. Not sure if that helps or not. Good luck to you.

Use Mr.Crappie line for casting and dock shooting. Fireline for the longrod dipping timber. Braid for spider rigging.

I have tried pretty much everything, and usually go back to mono.

Nanofil is okay, casts pretty good, but knots are a pain in the butt. I still use it, but with a mono leader.

Braid is okay as well, but I like to have some stretch, and it has very little to offer against abrasion.

Atimm, you have trouble with knots with the Nanofil? I have always used the Palomar knot and never had an issue.

I was a Mr Crappie hi vis guy, but switched over to p line years ago after I started fishing with JigFisher (Jeff). It was what he preferred and I tried to mimic him as much as possible :D

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.
