    Default Wear Em

Running down the lake yesterday and in the distance see a boat that looks unoccupied. Wasn’t sure, nope better go back, sure enough, gentleman on the other side of the boat clinging to a rope. He had fallen in, probably bumped one of Truman’s notorious underwater stumps. Fortunately he was wearing his vest, it saved his life. He had no ladder, it was high sided rig and he could not possibly have got back in. Together we managed to get him around to the back of my boat and get him on board. Because of his life vest he got to go home to his family. Please wear them when you fish as well as moving under power folks, be safe and be prepared. I see so many that don’t have them on and let’s face it none of us are getting any younger. Great to make your acquaintance Gene, good luck and safe fishing. Be Like Gene, wear a vest

Thanks for lending him a hand.
    Great reminder!
One thing that helped me start wearing my PFD 100% of the time.
Was the thought of hitting my head and being unconscious if I fell out of the boat.
Get an auto inflating PFD and won’t even know you have it on.

Glad to hear all was ok. I also had the same thought that Redge had, hitting my head on the way out. I wear mine now and hook up the kill switch, auto inflate is well worth the money.

Good job Steve and great reminder! I know Mr. Gene will be forever grateful that you came back. Had a buddy whose partner went over the side last month at the Grenada ACT Tournament. He’s a big boy. If he’d of hit his head, they would have never got him back in the boat

The inflatables are nice! Only bad thing is you CAN slip down and they will go over your head and you could still be in trouble, especially if you are unconscious ! I am talking from a TRUE incident!

Good point Barry. Gene’s was standard not an inflatable. They do ride up a lot higher than one would anticipate, if he had been stuck in two foot waves he would have had difficulty. His almost appeared to be floating flat on the surface with his head protruding from the neck hole, he did have the back strap on but may have not been tight. Have someone grab your vest at the bottom and force it up like buoyancy would make it do if you are in the water. You might be surprised how close your mouth and nose are to the water level. Snug up the straps when wearing.
