    Default Help Stopping Dock Shooter

I know many of you like to shoot Docks but sorry for this post. My parents have a dock on the Little Ni at LOZ and the dock shooters are just getting to be to much for my dad as he gets older. We have had hooks in feet, dog paws and hands. A couple of weeks ago we pick 7 jigs off the dock all the same color and jig head just waiting for a kids foot to get caught. As my dad is getting older its harder for him to clean up after everyone.

What have you guys done to "shoot" proof your dock? I hate to do it but we need to make it to where you can't shoot under or around the boats.
It's not duck season so I have to do something... :D

I would get some regular metal fencing and put it around the bottom of the dock. Put it to the edge of the water at normal water level so the fish can still get in and out but lures can’t get through. Then make you you a hatch on the dock so you can still fish it from above if your family wants to fish it

Folks around here put boards (1x6 of 5/4) on the sides of their decks, sticking down into the water several feet, leaving about a 1/2 to 3/4" gap between boards.

Like a picket fence, sticking down into the water, except the boards are closer together.

I don't shoot docks! If I had a place on the lake and had a problem with finding jigs on my dock I would buy a big magnet to pick them up and put up a sign "jigs for sale"!

Over a couple of years I picked up almost 200 feet of chain link fence and 3 gates at the dump. I had to put several small pieces together but finced my whole back yard. A Gate attached to a cable winch on the Roof structure could lowered the Gate behind the boat . Chain Link is Galvanized and 4 feet ,stapled around the end and sides .. Expensive to Buy but free at the Dump ... There is also a web Site called Freecycle ,, Folks give unwanted things.

I generally avoid LOZ, reasons are obvious. Have done some dock shooting there. Looks like shooting under or around the boats is not the problem. Jigs on the dock surface are, you say.
All I know who dock shoot are responsible enough to retrieve any errant jigs on a dock surface. Unfortunately, there are dinks out there. All sorts.
Perhaps something to stop jigs around and above the dock edge that is removable so you can swim or whatever might work. The orange netting used at construction sites comes to mind, I am sure there are other options.
Might keep a non-swimmer kid from going in also. Good luck with your issue.
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.

Doubt it was from a dock shooter. Sounds more like someone making long casts at a brushpile next to the dock. They apparently are not very good at whatever they are doing but it is apparent they don't want to retrieve their jigs. Probably don't want to disturb the pile. Put up a trail camera and you'll see who is doing it.

chicken wire or any type of rope around the dock and in the water will make shooters want to move on in a hurry.

From what I heard that if you step up on the dock to retrieve your jig that you are trespassing. So that is why people break off there jigs.
