'Twas the day before Christmas
And at Smithville Lake
Not a motor was running
The whole place was "No Wake"
The
floodgates were open
The spillway was churnin'
Reducing my odds
If there's truth to my learnin'
Nonetheless I proceeded
With jig, black and pink
Then tipped with a minnow
And dropped in the drink
I back-reeled to the bottom
Where I felt the bait stop
Then slow-rolled it up
Till I felt the rod POP!
"Oh my gosh! It's a big'un!!"
Looking 'round me with fret
But no one was there
To hear my "GET THE NET!!
"Oh man, I can't wait
To inform all the fellas!
When they see this fish
They'll be all sorts of jealous!
"Hey Keefer! got crappie!
Clownfish and jackb!
Hey beagle and Hogster
and Jigging15!
"Call up Alex and dfar,
long poler (and Wyatt!)
They all gotta see this
Or they'll never buy it!
"Send a picture to Slab!
Send a PM to Speck!
Tell JR & Debbie
And vic n, what the heck!
"And let's not forget
Good ol' se'nfiftynine
(But how to include him?!
His name takes a whole line!!)"
I thought of Blue Skeeter
Gave a nod to the sky
"I wish he could see this.
Sure miss that big guy."
Then with one last gargantuan
Jerk of the rod
The fish broke the surface
And I gave a nod
"I should've known better!"
I spat, "For Pete's sake!"
After all, you'll remember
This
*IS* Smithville Lake!
So like all good things
