I do not know how tru this is,but was told red disapears after so many feet down. I do use red hooks and have better luck with them. Is this the reason why? who knows but if you are confident in some thing that is what you use.

I choose black because there are some situations where a painted head is better than a non-painted head. I've seen where it made little difference whether it was painted or not.
I feel the color of a painted head may be important with the size and type of jig. For example, a yellow marabou feather jig may work best with a white head. Since one of my favorite tube jigs is black and chartreuse, a painted black head seems to work best. Perhaps, that is because the black is already the head of the tube jig.

Anyway, I feel the color of the jig head may depend more on the jig/etc you are wanting to fish.

ineteresting.....I'll have to try orange with ?? jig.

My dad swears by orange, it looks good with chartreuse, white, and black. That is looks good to me, I dont know what the fish think about it. I painted up some orange ones last night. I've got some leftover dark green touchup paint for my truck, I'm using that for the eyes...It looks almost black on the little eyes, but it has some sparkle so i figured it couldnt hurt.

Orange shows up well in stained/muddy conditions,i guess thats why it works so well for beagle in those muddy southern Mo lakes

beagle,do you remember our trip on loz where orange/white was so good in that late winter clear water?

Sometimes the whole color thing works like its supposed to but then theres times where its totally backwards of what you think it should be,i experiment every trip until i get it down to what they want that particular day.
