    Default Shallow at night

I fished All night Friday(see earlier post) and 3 hrs Sunday night. 19 fish Friday and 8 Sunday. Most (especial Sunday) were very nice. All were caught less than 5 feet deep. in 3 - 12 feet of water. Is any one else seeing them this shallow and are you fishing night or day. BTW Fishing the Rez. against the rocks.

Default well crap, I fishing the pelahatchie bridge saturday

and only had 1 bite. Course the phone rang just about the time I got it. I was working them deep, around 12-18 feet with 3 rods at different depths cause thats where my fishfinder said ther fish were. Do the crappie move up shallow in cool weather and then back deep in cold weather? Killing me not to call them White Perch. LOL

When the weather starts cooling, they move shallow and gorge themselves on shad, minnows, worms...whatever they can find...to fatten up for the winter. Winter rolls around and they go deep...similar to summer pattern. Water temps play a big role in the changes.

I have caught them in January in 3' of water and bitter cold while fishing the turnaround on the Rez. at night. They were usually small to medium sized tough. Very rarely have I caught a slab that shallow in the cold weather.

I fished Ross Barnett Monday night and caught 12 crappie 10 of which were over 10 inches in 5 foot or less of water. I was fishing from the fishing pier right by the dam. The locals were fishing from top to bottom with minnows with little success. I was stinking it up too untill I put on a blk/chart Slab Buster and they started biting.

Being an out of stater without a boat I'm a bit limited on where I can fish but I hate being stuck in a motel room if I could be fishing.

If you are still in town, try the turnaround (Fishing Jetty) on the other side of the spillway. It is right behind "Cock of the Walk". Fish are usually 3' to 5' deep from 3' off the bank to about 30'. the water within casting distance is 12' to 20'. They usualy bite best from dusk to about 12 AM. They can be on either side. Just ride to the end and ask folks if they have anything. They are usually very helpful. Hope this helps.
