Sardis is somewhat stained all year long . Not like Grenada but certainly not clear . jmo.
Good Evening,
I’ve been invited, so that i take my boat I’m thinking, to do a Sardis trip at the end of March. My question is, generally speaking, is the water color generally stained, muddy or clear this time of year? I’m wanting to make sure I’m prepared with my soft baits. On that note if you have recommendations, I’m open to any advise.
This site is awesome, and I appreciate all the information that you all share!

Eagle, thanks for the info. This will be my first trip down and I’m really looking forward to it!
IMO, prepare for all 3 water colors. If we get a heavy rain before your trip, it can muddy up quick. That said, Sardis stays clearer than Grenada generally. I’d say stained is the most likely color. Maybe 1’ of visibility. Then again, Sardis isn’t my home lake, I’m only an infrequent visitor and hardly ever in the spring.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
Wannabe,
I appreciate your feedback. A buddy of mine went down several years ago and said water was so muddy you could almost walk across the lake. I don’t know if that was an unusually wet spring or not, but not having been there I just wanted to try and cover my bases. Again, appreciate your input.

I would say the end of March you should expect stained to muddy typically. Most use bright colored baits in the spring. Lots of chartreuse/black, pink/yellow, orange/chartreuse, blue/chartreuse.
Bigyeti,
Thanks for the feedback! I’ve got most of those colors covered, but I don’t have anything in blue. I don’t know that I’ve ever had any blue grub type plastics before. Thinking about it a little, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen any on a store display around here. I’ll pay a little more attention. Thanks again!

Guess I failed to mention…even if the water is muddy enough to smell, the fish will bite in it. And one area may be slightly cleaner and will hold more fish because of it. Sardis NEVER gets muddier than Grenada and I’ve done well on Grenada when it’s the color and consistency of chocolate pudding. In the spring, ya just never know unless you try.
That reminds me. I’m hungry.

As you drive south on I-55 slow down as you cross the Coldwater River and look. Arkabutla is the muddies and hardest lake of the big 4 to fish. I went to a tournament weigh-in in the spring, no one had the 7 fish limit. Lots of 2.5 and over 3 lb crappie were weighed in.
If you're from anywhere else other than around here you're gonna think the water is muddy. What we call clear is being able to see the prop in the water. Count on muddy for you Yankees.
