USACE Vicksburg District’s Grenada Lake seeks volunteers for annual Fish Habitat Day
Vicksburg, Miss. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District announces that Grenada Lake is seeking volunteers for its annual Fish Habitat Day on Dec. 3 at 7:30 a.m.
Volunteers will construct and place fish shelters using wooden stakes which help provide bedding and cover for fish.
Volunteers will meet at the North Graysport Ramp where cedar trees will be used to construct fish beds. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for volunteers followed by a drawing for door prizes after lunch. ATVs and UTVs are encouraged for this event, and users must wear a Department of Transportation-approved helmet. Volunteers are encouraged to wear warm outdoor clothing and gloves.
Fish Habitat Day is normally held in late January or early February, but was rescheduled because the lake experienced higher water levels. For more information, contact the Grenada Lake Field Office at 662- 226-5911.

I've carried 2 loads of what neighbors have cut and left them at Bayou Point ramp on Butla. About half of the first load was gone when I carried the 2nd load a week later.
I know of a few breaks around Horn Lake, Walls and Hernando. Could ask if we can cut. Just don't want to haul it to far. I don't have a storage area.
Had a pretty day to be out there. I counted 68 of us working today. At lunch one of the door prizes was a Winchester 12 ga auto shotgun and a Savage 308. Dang, didn't call my ticket number for either. I got a Tee shirt, mug and 2 packs of grubs.

Too blessed to be stressed!canebreaker thanked you for this post
The COE had dumped fresh cut cedar at the end of the ramp. It was staged mostly along the old roadbed of Graysport Crossing RD.
The COE had dumped fresh cut cedar at the west side of Graysport Crossing RD. It was staged as far out as could be without getting stuck.
The COE had dumped fresh cut cedar along the old Hwy 8 roadbed. That's where I carried a load of concrete weighs. Helped hook onto a few logs for those to carry and stage where they wanted.
In the past I've heard of that area being a hot spot for early spring. Going slow across the bridge I can see why. There are lots of stumps as far as you can see on both sides.
At about 14 years of age we drove from Calhoun City to Grenada along old Hwy 8. The water was up to the roadbed and there were fishermen everywhere. The bridges have been exploded or roadbed cut to the bridge.

Kudos to all those involved. Followed Patrick Stone's posts regarding habitat placement prior to, and the main day of. Should be some great subsequent year-class recruitment with all that goes into that lake.
Haven't seen a post from pstone in a few years. On facebook, people you may know, his profile pops up every now and then.
