Jourdan & Pearl Rivers giving up some nice fish...................
I spent the last 2 days fishing with a co-worker from the 80's. We have been randomly running into each other for numerous years but only fished together once 15 years ago. Well he is a top Bass Angler but never fished, targeting Crappie, by vertical fishing jigs in submerged trash piles of Cypress and Oak. Thursday was beautiful, 1/2 foot tide, light winds, sunny - really put the Crappie into the wood to get out of the direct sunlight. Made a mid day trip, 9am to 3pm, my usual, picking fish off almost every tree we stopped at. Reconnecting over a trip catching Crappie made for a solid day of satisfaction, sticking Steel to the roof of Crappie's Mouths on Jourdan River! We enjoyed the day so much we did a repeat on Friday only this time heading over to my main stomping grounds on the East Pearl River (Louisiana - Mississippi State Line) and some Stomping we did. Since Thursday's catch was numerous we culled the keepers a bit harder Today. With the Navy Seals training enthusiastically the last 2 days the fish were spooky at best, Lock Jawed at worst. Wind howling, sun hidden behind thick clouds, spooky fish to deal with, we took to the task of locating, and catching some real River Pigs. All the Crappie Anglers we saw had very long faces. I hate to lie but we worked so hard for our fish today so when ask by another quitting Angler on the way in, throwing in the towel on the day, how we were doing my response was the same, "We have a couple". I lied a lot today.
Picture of a school of 3-4in Crappie migrating up a creek channel off Jourdan River. It was one continuous string but it broke by the time I got to take a picture. 15ft of solid Crappie, just Cool.
If I die from a Deadly Sin it will be Gluttony!
