    Default Ross Barnett question

I’m meeting up with a buddy of mine from the New Orleans area to fish Ross Barnett in mid July. Generally speaking, is pulling cranks the best approach for that time of year? I’d appreciate any tips for places to start and write suggestions, etc. is the river productive or should I limit fishing to the Rez?

I fish out of Tommy's, they are at Hwy 43 on the Rez. I catch year around there but when hot like this I'm in the river above the back way into Horseshoe Lake. I start above there 9-12ft depending on how deep the fish are holding in the trees. You will see trees on the left bank all the way up to the VFW, the white building on the left going up river. Right past the VFW on the right side of the river are numerous submerged trees not seen above water. They recruit a few fish too. Ketchn's approach works well for me in using smaller jigs with smaller hooks fishing the structure. That said bring a lot of jig heads! If you think you're fishing braid so you will just straighten the hook to get your head back well when you pull on the structure you shut the bite down well past where you're sitting. I use mono and re-tie as needed.
