As long as the C.O.E. will flush so many through the outlet channel each winter this topic is lacking in merit in my opinion . If you ask the biologist why nothing is done to keep the flush from happening they will say it is actually needed . The loss of mouths to feed is a good thing to take pressure off the shad so those remaining will have plenty to eat . Remember years back when they tried to convince us that next year we would see more larger fish ? I have not personally seen that . Say what you like "pressure on these lakes is less now than 15-20 yrs . ago . Last week at 4:30 on a Saturday there was 4 boats (1 fishing ) from Bynum to Chickasaw on Enid . Live scope has shown us that there are larger fish there and most of those guys are tournament fishermen that keep way less fish than many think . BGRUBBS and I fished Magnolia a year and never took home a fish prefishing or on tournament day . Sometimes we make up our minds about what is going on based on totally false information . In my opinion guides are not public enemy #1 . Lack of warden presence is our largest need . The state of Mississippi is in the "taking " business not the resource business . Take a show of hands how many had their license checked not during the spawn or on a tournament day and it will not take long to call roll . Moved to water Valley in 1995 (27 yrs ) and have been checked twice on Enid , once on Grenada and none on Sardis . For years I heard those "out-of- state " folks are killing the big 4 . In reality those breaking the law That I observed live 20 -30 min. from the lake .Lack of enforcement not guides, is our largest problem . I know of no guide that does not pay taxes or buy a license . Some say they do not claim all trips . I say go buy a boat and get some of that pot of gold on the other side of the rainbow .Again unproven speculation . JMO.

Personally, don't think they should claim tips. Wages are an agreed upon income. When you get a job, you agree upon your wage and go to work for that agreed wage. When you hire a guide you agree upon his wage for the day. There is nothing agreed upon or insinuated regarding tips. I think tips should be considered non-taxable income. Just sayin.

I never thought about it but it just seems to me a guide wouldnt want to keep a limit of fish when he's on the water so much. Where would he be putting all those fish? I dont see anything wrong with giving the fish a guide catches to his clients as long as he isnt putting his clients in jeopardy of being over the limit when they leave his boat. When the clients limits are had then you would have to either cull fish or call it a day. That's JMO.......

Which is kinda the point. Nothing says that the clients either (1) have to continue to fish if/when they catch the limit, (2) that the guide has to keep a limit of fish on any trip, and certainly not every trip. Absolutely nothing wrong with calling it quits when the clients reach their limit. However, as I have posted earlier, in our neck of the woods (Corps Impoundments in Mississippi), that's only 10 fish if there are two clients. Total boat limit on Corps is 40 fish.
